Welcome to Little Hill Childminding in Kelso, Scottish Borders!
Thank you for stopping by! I’m Serena, and I run Little Hill Childminding from my home in Kelso, which is colourful, fun, and full of little touches to make children feel happy and comfortable. I provide a calming and nurturing environment where your child can explore, learn, and grow at their own pace.
With one-to-one interaction, I can give each child the attention and care they deserve. I’m registered with the Care Inspectorate, and I’m excited to be opening full-time this May. Spaces are available, and I would love to welcome your little ones into my warm, caring home.
Our approach to early learning
My approach is child-led, meaning I tune into each child’s interests and natural curiosity. I don’t follow a rigid routine—instead, I create a flexible environment where learning flows from what the children enjoy, helping them grow and develop at their own pace
A Colourful Space Where Imagination Grows
Bursting with colour and joy, my home is a happy place for children to explore and play. Toys are in easy-to-access baskets, so children can choose what sparks their curiosity and follow their own interests, with gentle guidance when needed. Every day is full of playful learning and fun!
Exploration & discovery
At Little Hill Childminding, children have lots of opportunities to explore their surroundings, both indoors and outdoors, encouraging curiosity and helping them understand the world around them. Our huge garden is a favourite spot, featuring a treehouse climbing frame with two slides and two swings — perfect for active play and adventure!
We also have a separate dog-free area, so focused activities can take place without distractions from our friendly Border Collie, Jax Children are free to explore and play in the garden under supervision at all times.
At the back of our garden is a gate that’s kept locked unless we’re heading straight into the woods. From there, children can enjoy woodland walks, mini-beast hunts, bear hunts, or any adventure their imagination takes them — all just a few steps from the garden!
Nurturing routines
I love to make snack time fun and a little bit different! Sometimes we sit outside for a picnic in the fresh air, and other times we bring our favourite soft toys indoors to create a cosy teddy bear picnic. It’s all about enjoying healthy snacks together in a relaxed, social setting, giving the children space to chat, laugh, and share while thinking outside the box instead of always sitting at a table. These little moments help make everyday routines playful, engaging, and full of joy. 🧸
Individual development
I recognise that every child is unique and develops at their own pace. By following a child-led approach, I support each child’s individual development, focusing on their strengths, interests, and next steps to help them grow in confidence and ability.
